Melbourne Storm is proud of releasing our 2022 Indigenous jersey. Coree Thorpe, a Yorta Yorta Gunnai Gunditjmara Wurundjeri Man and Artist, has taken the Rainbow Serpent’s inspiration for this special creation. Coree is a long-standing Storm fan and has strengthened his connection with Melbourne through his Leadership and Community Development position at Dardi Munwurro. This indigenous organisation has a long-standing relationship with the club. The Storm family is represented by the jersey 2022, which connects players, coaches, staff and members across all its features. Coree has used a familiar story about the Rainbow Serpent in order to connect Storm with the club’s journey through the NRL during its first 24 years. The story has strong connections to Storm’s journey on the east coast, as well as providing a symbol for how each season requires regeneration. The jersey’s lines, which are coloured yellow or orange, signify Storm’s active years within the NRL. The orange lines refer to years when the club has won a Grand Final. Meanwhile, the purple lines signify the ribs – people and players in the organisation. The artwork features diamonds on both sides, representing the men and woman who make Melbourne Storm. “Every year changes, like the snake. It’s not the shedding of players or people but the journey continues. Coree said, “It’s stronger, learns, heals, and changes.” “You need to understand your history to be able to move forward. Storm is a good example of this.
